 In 2014, we are offering our first ever SCC family day-conference, which comprises a full day of educational programming sessions for children, teens and adults in their own space. The SCC Family Conference is a 1 day, conference separate from SCC, and registration is a separate application. It is the first major transgender family conference held in the southern U.S.

Johanna (Dr. “Jo”) Olson, MD is an Adolescent Medicine physician specializing in the care of transgender youth, gender variant children, youth with HIV, and chronic pain. Board certified in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Dr. Olson has been an Assistant Professor at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for the past three years. She has appeared on ABC’s 20/20 in 2007 and The Dr. Phil show in 2008 to educate audiences about the needs of transgender youth.

Vin Tangpricha MD, PHD is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Lipids. He has a special clinical and research interest in the hormonal treatment of transgender individuals. He served on the Endocrine Society Taskforce for Guidelines for Treatment of Transsexual Persons which published Endocrine Guidelines for Treatment of Transsexual Persons in 2009. He is also an active member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

Sherman N. Leis, D.O., F.A.C.O.S. is Professor and Chairman of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is Board Certified in General Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and specializes in all types of transgender surgery. He is Director and Chief Surgeon at The Philadelphia Center for Transgender Surgery. The Center represents a team of more than forty professionals who have expertise in servicing the surgical and non-surgical needs of transgender individuals and is one of the few comprehensive centers of its type in the United States. Dr. Leis is the Founder of a Residency Training Program in Philadelphia and over the past thirty years has trained more than eighty plastic surgeons practicing across the United States. He is also President, CEO and Principal Clarinet of the Lower Merion Symphony, a Philadelphia area community orchestra.

Dr. Marci Bowers

Dr. Marci Bowers, M.D., of Burlingame, California is an experienced Ob/Gyn, known for her additional expertise in the field of Transgender Surgery and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Dr. Bowers is a pelvic and gynecologic surgeon with nearly 25 years’ experience in Women’s Healthcare. She is a University of Minnesota Medical School graduate and an Ob/Gyn product of the University of Washington in Seattle. There, she practiced as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist at The Polyclinic and Swedish Medical Center.She spent several years in practice in Trinidad, Colorado before relocating in 2010 to the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2007 Dr. Bowers became an international authority on clitoral reconstruction for women who have sufferedFemale Genital Mutilation (FGM), one of a select few surgeons worldwide performing functional FGM reversal. She has been the subject of numerous documentaries, articles and features including appearances on Oprah, CBS Sunday Morning and Discovery Health, Newsweek, and the Times of London. She is a devoted women’s healthcare advocate and provider.
